Pre K-8th Grade Student Artwork

During a unit that focused on directional words like “above” and “below” kindergartners learned about community gardens and made watercolor paintings of gardens. During this project students also discussed the different types of plants, insects, and animals that grow in gardens and their root systems.
After Reading The All Together Quilt by Lizzy Rockwell Pre-k – 1st Grade students would create their own paper quilt blocks to include in a class quilt to be hung in the hallway outside of their classrooms.
Once their blocks were completed, students would gather together and decide how they want to arrange all of their blocks as a whole. During this process students are encourage to point out what shapes they see and to point out what they like about their classmates’ work.
In the unit Pop Up Habitats 2nd Graders learned about about foreground and background by making pop-up pages of animal habitats. First, they learned what a habitat is and then performed research on an animal of their choice. After looking through books from the school library students made their own pop-up pages of their animals in their habitats.
In a unit that focused on mixed media techniques, color schemes, and color mixing, 3rd grade students created abstract collages. Students began this process by making their own collage materials using a gel printing technique. In the following class students took their prints and cut them up to use in their collages.
In a week long soft sculpture workshop 9-12 year old students learned skills like crochet and needle felting to create 3D forms of their choice.

The following artwork was created by Art 2 Students during an introduction to embroidery unit. Materials: Cotton Fabric, embroidery floss, wooden embroidery hoop



Inspired by Surrealism and Meow Wolf’s Omega Mart, the following sculptures were created by Art 2 students during a unit titled Uncanny Plants. In this two part project students were asked to create a satirical canned product label, and then invent and construct a paper plant to “grow” from their can. Materials include: paper, acrylic paint, masking tape, hot glue, sculpting wire, markers, found materials


After learning one point and two point perspective Art 1 students learned about the interior paintings of Mickalene Thomas. Students were then prompted to design and draw an interior using one point or two point perspective that incorporated a collaged furniture element. After completing their initial drawings students were then asked to cut up their drawings and collage it back together, adorning it with mixed media materials. Materials: collaged paper, marker, colored pencil, wrapping paper, construction paper, magazines, glitter, rhinestones.
